     I'll explain by dissecting these two examples of my book and the trading system.

     To introduce this, let me tell you a little story…

     I recently moved into a new condo and wanted all the latest electronics- 63" plasma, theater sounds, the whole nine yards. I was referred to this guy who comes round and does the whole thing for you- he was called Tom.

     I told him what I wanted and he took care of it- no selling required on his part. While he was fitting it all, I took the time to ask about all the technical questions his clients must ask.

     He said, "Actually, most clients are single guys like you and they really only ask me one question."

     "Oh, what's that?" I asked.

     "Will it get me laid?"

     "Oh. I wondered why you kept telling me how women would leave their panties at the door when they saw my 63" plasma."

     Now, here's a guy who knows the secret. Here's a guy who understands the difference between product and concept…

     Before we go there though, to use this secret we have to have a fundamental premise in place: something Gary was fond of demonstrating- remember how Gary asked you what things you would want to succeed if you had a hot dog stand? Would you like the best ingredients or whatever? His answer was: a starving crowd!

     Important lesson. Obvious, BUT often overlooked!

     Tom the TV guy doesn't overlook that fundamental premise. You see, Tom doesn't care if you were offended by what he says, because Tom knows his market and lives in the real world however sordid it might be. He's identified the fact that single guys are his best customers (let's face it, can many married guys get away with buying tens of thousands of dollars worth of AV equipment?!)

     So, having identified the fact his best customers will be single guys, he has developed a sales concept that will appeal to them: getting laid.

     Tom's product = TVs
     Tom's concept = Getting Laid

     When I say the word 'concept', I also mean the words: angle/offer/USP. You've probably heard those words, but now finally, they're going to make sense to you…

     Needless to say, Tom sells a lot of TVs.

     Why does his concept work?

     Same reason any successful concept works (burn this into your forehead and start a drum roll please)…

PEOPLE BUY THINGS FOR EMOTIONAL REASONS NOT LOGICAL ONES!!!!!

     Comprendez?

     Once Tom tells a single guy this TV will increase the chances of him getting laid, his juices are flowing and his pulse is racing. The technical specifications of the TV, how much it is etc. all become incidental at this point- the point a mentor of mine refers to as the point of 'magical thinking'.

     And by the way, the reality is (with young girls anyway) that a 63" plasma TV WILL increase the chances of getting laid (not that I speak from experience of course) IF that guy can get that girl home to show her.

     In short, Tom is NOT lying.

     And neither should you.

     And at the end of the day, the customer gets what he pays for: a great TV all hooked up and ready to go by a real pro who knows what he's doing.

     In short, Tom is NOT selling junk.

     And neither should you.

     You see, this powerful secret isn't a license to scam people; what I'm saying is that there is a hierarchy of things that needs to be observed. Most people either prioritize these things all wrong or worse, miss out the critical element altogether: concept.

     Here's the hierarchy:

 1) Market
A crowd of starving people. All bets are off if you're not fishing where the fish are to begin with.
Tom's market = single guys

2) Concept (angle/USP/offer)
If the market is a lake full of fish we've found, this is the bait on the hook. Clearly, the concept is driven      by the market.
Tom's concept = getting laid

3) Product
To continue the fishing analogy, this is the fishing pole or net. If you don't have a lake full of fish with juicy bait, you can have the best fishing equipment in the world and it won't matter. Sure, you do want the best gear (products) but observe the hierarchy. Clearly, and this is the part people can't grasp, product should be driven by concept!
Tom's product = Superb TVs professionally hooked up, unlimited support and advice.

     Most people focus ENTIRELY on number three and nothing else, never mind get these things in the right order!

     Now, imagine if Tom talked in terms of technical specs. Sure, he'd sell some TVs, but not as many, and not as many back end items and certainly not many huge screens!

     But eventually, the customer calms down. He's just about to write the check and logic kicks in. He starts asking about technical specs, warranty and discount. This is the easy part though, isn't it?

     Because the customer was quickly put into a state of 'magical thinking', the product becomes largely incidental, right?

     So let's add something to those words you've drawn across your forehead…

PEOPLE BUY THINGS FOR EMOTIONAL REASONS AND THEN LOOK TO BACK UP THEIR EMOTIONAL DECISION WITH LOGICAL REASONS

     Okay, so if you're a sane person, you should now appreciate the importance of formulating a powerful CONCEPT based on your MARKET and create a quality PRODUCT according to that concept.

     Trust me, Gary's up there in the clouds nodding his head!

     So let's talk about how to do that…

     There are 4 critical elements to creating a powerful concept (C.C.U.S.):

1) Customer Requirements
The concept must RESONATE with the intended audience. Note: this is not what you THINK they should have or need, but what they WANT deep down on an emotional level. Think how Tom's market was single guys and when creating a sales concept, he put the product out of his head and thought about what single guys really want- THEN he made his product fit that want. You can only achieve this if you know your customer profile intimately.

2) Credibility
It must be credible. Push the envelope, but too far and it's over. People will WANT to believe your concept if it suits them though. While Tom's implication of a TV helping you get laid may SEEM farfetched, it's still credible because we can at least imagine the truth in the statement. Moreover, a single guy will WANT to believe this.

3) Uniqueness
This is the key; the real trick. This is the essence of concept. Tom's concept was getting laid, and I would guess that's a pretty unique proposition for a TV salesman. Essentially, the question is: what's so special about YOUR xyz product/service? Why does Starbucks sell more coffee than a mom and pop café when essentially the product is the same: a cup of coffee (By the way, a cup of coffee is hardly an original product if you find yourself obsessing about having to be original!). Starbucks don't sell coffee as much as an experience. This is found by tapping into the deep recesses of your market's psyche and requires a great deal of thought.

4) Story
People like a story, or at least the seeds of one their imagination can pick up on, perhaps by implication. Tom achieves this by implication.

     So they're the ingredients of a good concept. The main things people wrestle with are the clear distinction between product and concept and how to come up with a good concept once they make this distinction.

     This is the TRUE art of a copywriter in my well-earned opinion: That the battle is won or lost before a single word of copy is written or preferably, even before the product is created, by the development of a powerful concept!

     Yes, you need to practice the art of good copywriting in itself; it must have the flow of conversation and a proven super-structure. But even Gary himself would have struggled to write a winning piece for a lousy concept.

     Remember, the more quality sales copy you read, the better your copywriting will become!

Q: "Okay, so you're only going for small, regular profits. But won't dealing charges wipe out those gains?"

     No. This is only an issue for people who are 'over-trading'- this is one way brokerages scalp amateurs. I CLEAR around $2-300 a day using this myself.

Q: "It sounds exclusive. Isn't it a nightmare opening an account and having enough capital?"

     Not at all. It's been deliberately made to sound exclusive so the banks can keep you out of it. I've already said you can start trading at the same level as me for just a couple of grand and you can set up a trading account in ten minutes!

Q: "How can this make money on a day when the market falls badly?"

     Well, we're not even trading shares for a start! We're trading currencies (the Money Mountain) using a code which equates to a dealer in a casino tipping his hand BEFORE you make your move. If ANY market move affects the currency market, it will be reflected in the hand the 'dealer' shows us!

Q: "Does this involve using a load of technical mumbo-jumbo and complicated charts?"

     Let me dispel a myth; technical analysis only accounts for about 10-15% of what trading is really about. Any pro will tell you this. This isn't some silly system which analyses past data or whatever… this is how it's really done by the biggest players in the world!

Q: "What guarantee do I have I will make money with this?"

     By the way, The Insider Code is an absolutely fantastic trading system (which is available to you by calling 413-540-9494). Remember what I said: the product should be of the highest quality always, but a compelling concept is what will make it fly.

     Important point: the concept IS the headline. And the headline is 90% of the battle! Tom the TV guy essentially had a headline of: "I can get you laid more often!" Okay, but then Tom had some explaining to do. The important thing though is that he got his apathetic customer woken up and excited so it was a downhill battle from there on. The Insider Code piece does that.

     Next point: what you just read is a sales piece for a FOREX trading system and yet there isn't a single trading chart or a testimonial seen in it!
